Why Wait?

Beirut's new album, The Rip Tide, is slated to be released on Aug 30 on Pompeii Records. Luckily for us, they've decided to release the digital version on August 2. That's THIS Tuesday!

We really hope you didn't wait to get your tickets for the sold out shows on August 9 and 10 at The Commodore. Toronto's Basia Bulat will be opening. Trust us, you won't want to miss her.

Capitol Hill

Checkout the amazing Alexei Perry of the Handsome Furs at the 2011 Capitol Hill Block Party. We don't have the words yet to explain how awesome this weekend was, but here is a link to the flickr photostream so you can see for yourself. If you've never been to this event, mark your calendar for next year. Seriously. Do it.

We had such a good time this week at TV on the Radio, Les Savy Fav and Handsome Furs that we're heading down to the Capitol Hill Block Party to see them again. See you Monday!

The Screaming Eagle of Soul

We'd like to introduce you to Charles Bradley, the new king of soul. Don't believe us? Sit back and prepare to be blown away. To read Mr. Bradley's amazing story, visit his website.

TVOTR Tonight...and Tomorrow

The Georgia Straight loves TV On the Radio and so do we. As they put it, "if you haven’t seen the band’s all-out hypnotic live show, it’s not too late to clamber aboard the bandwagon. "

Tickets are still available for tonight's show, and there are a few still available for tomorrow.

Forecast

The Capital Hill Block Party hits Seattle this weekend! Don't know what to wear? Here's some inspiration from The Pitchfork Music Festival care of Refinery 29.

Though Vancouverites have had little opportunity to wear summer clothes, we can still appreciate a good festival outfit.

Stick A Fork In It

Pitchfork Music Festival is wrapping up what we can only assume was an amazing weekend (great music and hot weather, yes please!), so we thought we'd put up a post about one of the many artists we're looking forward to seeing this fall. A Chicago Sun-Times article about the festival refers to James Blake as a dead ringer for Aaron Neville. We think he's a dead ringer for awesome. Checkout his North American television debut on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

Business Casual

Here's a summer playlist care of Chromeo. Check them out live August 2nd at The Commodore Ballroom. And be sure to wear something you can move in, because you'll be dancing all night long.

Pretty Pictures

Checkout these awesome photos from The Handsome Furs 2009 tour of Asia. The duo plays Vancouver Friday, July 22nd. Tickets available here.

Yuck

Yuck's self-titled debut on Fat Possum has set blogs.buzzing.all.over.the.internet. with its reverent salute to the 90s

Yuck and Unknown Mortal Orchestra play at The Biltmore Cabaret July 23rd.

Dream Team

If you've seen them, you already know that Les Savy Fav are probably one of the best live bands to come out of the past decade. Tim Harrington is known for his wild antics, but when reigned in by the constraints of live radio it's easy to see that this band has a lot more going for it than crowd surfing in garbage cans and literally swinging from the rafters (though it does make for an unforgettable night).

Want even more good news? Handsome Furs are also on the bill, playing in Vancouver for the first time since Wolf Parade's final show in May. The husband and wife duo recently released their third album, Sound Kapital, out on Sub Pop. The first video from the album premiered yesterday, check out the full story here

Les Savy Fav and Handsome Furs are playing at The Commodore on July 22, 2011.

TV on the Radio will be playing July 20th and July 21st at The Commodore Ballroom.
